Take them out often. Praise them with food and praise when they do go to the bathroom outside. Don't punish them after the fact. If you catch them peeing that is fine. They have 1.5 seconds from when they do something to remember what they did. Don't fuss at them for something they did 5 minutes ago. Here is a tip. For a week train the dog. Don't feed them much out of a bowl but feed them buy hand and feed them when they go to the bathroom outside and sit,… Crate training really helps. Take him out first thing in the morning as soon as you get up, right before you go to bed and set times in between.

My sister got a puppy a few weeks ago and the thing pees and poops all in the floor. She doesn't take it out for long enough…she will take it outside and assumes since the puppy didn't pee it doesn't have to go…then as soon as she brings it back in the house it does it's business. So now the dog doesn't like being out in the grass to go…it will go on the sidewalk or something. Just when you take it out make sure you leave it out long enough to get the urge to poop. Making a schedule would probably help too.

i just got a puppy last week and shes already potty trained,
i take her out every hour to start off (to the same place in the yard everytime) than increase the time but no more than 3-4 hours, at feeding times take him out 30 min after he eats.

make sure to say something like "lets go outside", when you are taking him to do his business. than when he goes say "good potty", "good boy", ect.

well i have used wee wee pads but my dog was a pain in the neck to break because he knows to go on it but he won't use it twice. i got fed up with it and i started kennel training him and that seems to be working out for the both of us. when he comes out of the kennel, i take him right out and he has to go so bad that he goes outside. my dog is a very stubborn bloodhound. beautiful dog but still a pain to house break. good luck!

I had my dog potty trained in a week. Since your dog is older it may tak a little bit longer. my theroy is dont yell at the dog if the dog is scared it will just hide an use the potty in a hiding space. when my pup had accidents I just told her no and took her outside. I watch her and after she eats or drinks she gios out and stays out untill she goes potty. And finally when she does potty out side I make a huge deal about it ( oh good girl pet her alpt and give treat) the website below has the same trainning tips works on any puppy. good luck

You can do many things to aid in training of your pup. Fisrt a good rule of thumb is that the pup nees to go every hour for the # of months old he is. So at three months he can hold it for three hours. He will need to relieve himself. after eating, sleeping, chewing on a toy and after playing. Keeping this in mind the pup should be brought outside following these activities. When you bring your pup out praise him after he does his duty, and don't rush him back in the house, but let him play and fun for at least 10 min. To handle accidents in the house.clean it up with a paper towel and take the pup and the towel outside and put it on the ground, so the pup gets the idea this is where it belongs. Rubbing a pups nose it it is not a solution, this almost never works, and harsh scolding confuses him as he will think the act of relieving himself is wrong. Good luck

if he goes in the house say NO and point to the pee. but when they go outside pet them and reward em with a treat, while saying GOOD DOG.

The best way is to keep the dog on a schedual. He gets fed at the same times every day, is walked at the same time everyday, and is taken outside at the same time everyday.

Even with the schedual, mistakes will happen, but many less will happen. The best thing you can do is act calm and be prepared. If you catch him in the act, dont freak out and scream at him, dont chase him down and rub his nose in it, and dont whack him with a rolled up news paper. these are about the worst things a dog owner can do. These methods only teach the dog to be afraid to go to the bathroom around you, they dont teach him not to go in the house. You need to be there to praise him when he eliminates in the right place. When your dog has an "accident, " simply and firmly say "NO". show disapointment in your facial expression and in the tone of your voice. then immidiatly lead the dog to the training paper or out to the yard. If you have a smaller dog, then you can usally walk over to him, pick him up, say no, then place him in the propper spot. He should stop when you pick him up and continue when you place im down as long as you havent made im to nervous. if he continues in the right place then act totally forgiving and praise him. This action constitiutes an effective contrast between acceptable and un acceptable behavior.

If you are unable to catch the dog in the act, all you can do is simply clean it up. Do your bst for preventing future mistakes. do not punnish the dog asfter it has happened, or he will not know what he is being punished for.

remember, your dog isnt out to get you. he would much rather to see you happy with him playing that to have you scold him. So concentrait all of your efforts into complimenting his success rater then criticizing his faliur. this will garentee faster results.
